Tradition

It’s always been done this way,
To change the method would affront the past,
After the evening comes the end of day,
And at that time we break the long blood-fast.
It’s always been done this way,
And Dracula Himself would rise at last,
To slap the fangs of any who would say,
"Blood would still be as good as noon repast".
It’s always been done this way,
We flinch from holy symbols as aghast,
Even if we are atheists, or pray,
To different Gods (the choice grows ever vast).
It's always been done this way,
And sharpened stakes remain for the outcast,
The heretic who says Vlad supped by day,
(Or ventured out when it was overcast).

If we did differently, if by the day
We supped on blood, and feared not priest nor cross
We would have given up the Vladist's way,
And that would be a dark unholy loss.
