Bring me the body of my steed that died
Its body burned by fire along the lance
That lively leapt forth from the worm's cold hide.
My armour had the knives of steel outside
To crush me in its coils it had no chance.
Bring me the body of my steed that died
It bore the agony and never shied
Though it could not endure the brilliance
That lively leapt forth from the worm's cold hide.
That evil dance of flames that many a knight had tried
To best, and gone down, cowed by its foul glance.
Bring me the body of my steed that died
For I have heard a sovereign balm to chide
And turn back death comes from that oil, perchance
That lively leaps forth from the worm's cold hide.
Wrap in that hide, then my beloved bride
For closer steed to me, than court romance.
Bring me the body of my steed that died
That lively leaps forth from the worm's cold hide.
