Sea Poem

On the horizon's line
Division fails
However clear the sealine seems,
The Sky
Is pearl and shimmer,
Distant Islandings,
Isles that are clouds,
Clouds, isles,
Defeat the eye.
Grey silk lain over blue,
The distant tones,
Blur, interlace, repeat,
And, then are one.
Only the nearer waves,
Are black and shear,
White crowned, definable
Geometries.
Powerful to move ships,
While the distances, disturb
Thoughts, with their motions.

Lines composed on the cruise ship Discovery 2/9/2012, at sea.
